Heat

The longer days and the warm sun invite us to spend more time outdoors. Instead of having lunch in the student room or at home, you can often enjoy a barbecue lunch or spice up the weekend with a picnic.

Which grill to choose?

Gas and electric barbecues have their pros and cons. Before buying, it is good to know if the grill will be used outdoors or indoors. Charcoal-grilled meat tastes richer in smoke, while electric and gas grills are easier to use and generally easier to transport. Each grill must be thoroughly cleaned and warmed before cooking so that food does not stick. When cooking, avoid using wooden utensils and marinate the meat in salt and spices before cooking to make it taste even better. Grill masters advise having two heat zones on the grill, hot and cold.

Instead of čevapčiči

In addition to čevapčiči, you can also grill sausages, steaks, fish, cutlets, necks and other pork.

Grilling doesn’t have to be expensive, darker meat is usually less expensive than white meat and fish. If your budget is limited, you can also grill eggs, sausages, bacon and a variety of vegetables. To make the table more varied, you can prepare different sauces. The preparation usually does not take a lot of time and ingredients. Tatziki sauce, avocado guacamole sauce, and sweet and sour sauce will fire up the most.

Instead of potatoes, you can serve a variety of salads, such as rice with vegetables or a simple pasta salad, and a Greek salad will be especially refreshing. Greek salad

When preparing grilled food for vegetarians and vegans, care must be taken that the grill or broiler is well cleaned and that no animal fats are used in cooking. Instead of meat, you can grill avocado, tofu, mushrooms, zucchini, eggplant, or vegan versions of sausage. For a grilled dessert, bake peaches or apricots. In addition, ice cream fits very well.

Tips for Success

Prefer to drink beer and do not pour it on the meat, because it does not absorb it. To caramelize food on the grill, leave it in one place for a while and then turn it over. Do not turn all the time during cooking. Lean meat and fish can be cooked wrapped in aluminum foil to preserve the juiciness of the meat. And above all: don’t let the grill out of your sight, because something can burn quickly.
